Uber Begins Selling Cannabis in Canada

Uber Partners with Tokyo Smoke to Sell Cannabis in Canada

Uber has entered the cannabis sales market in Canada by partnering with the Canadian cannabis company Tokyo Smoke to facilitate online cannabis sales. According to Reuters, which cited an Uber representative, this partnership allows residents of Ontario to purchase cannabis through the Uber Eats app and then pick up their orders at the nearest Tokyo Smoke store.

An Uber spokesperson stated that, at this time, the company has no news regarding potential expansion into the cannabis industry in other Canadian provinces or in the United States.

β€œWe will closely monitor regulations and market opportunities,” the spokesperson added, β€œand as local and federal laws evolve, we will explore opportunities with merchants operating in other regions.”

Uber expects that this partnership will help Canada combat the illegal market, which still accounts for more than 40% of all recreational cannabis sales nationwide.
