Tor Project Releases Official Tor Browser for Android
After eight months of testing, the nonprofit Tor Project has announced the official release of the Tor Browser for Android. Version 8.5 of the Tor Browser is the first stable release, following a public alpha version that was launched in September 2018.
According to the Tor Project, while there are some functional differences between the desktop and mobile versions of the browser, both provide nearly identical security features, including protection against proxy bypass and tracking.
Alongside Tor for Android, the team has also released Tor Browser 8.5 for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Currently, there is no official version of the browser for iOS. However, Apple device users can install alternative apps that allow them to use Tor on their mobile devices.
The Tor Browser is built on Mozilla Firefox. Previously, Mozilla announced the establishment of a grant to develop ways to integrate the Tor protocol into Firefox.
