Tinkoff Proposes New System to Combat Phone Scams

Tinkoff Bank has proposed creating a system for tracking and analyzing phone fraud. This initiative aims to identify those making spoofed calls to bank customers, according to RBC.

The authors of the proposal believe that, once the system is established, banks will be required to submit information about fraudulent calls reported by their clients. The system will process the incoming data to determine which telecom operator initiated the call, and then request a response from the operator to confirm whether they originated the call themselves or received it from another operator. If the operator initiated the call directly, it may indicate that they are not properly monitoring their number allocations and could potentially be serving criminals.

Tinkoff Bank noted that their initiative has already been submitted for discussion to the Association of Russian Banks. Additionally, Roskomnadzor has shown interest in the proposal. The organization gave a positive assessment, and as a result, a representative from the regulatory authority will join the working group to discuss the bankers’ proposal.
