Tesla May Launch Electric Vehicles for Cannabis Delivery

North American courier service Pelican Delivers, which specializes in cannabis delivery, is in talks with automaker Tesla about producing electric vehicles designed for transporting cannabinoid products.

Eco-Friendly Cannabis Transportation

The management of Pelican Delivers, together with Tesla employees, aims to develop the design of an electric vehicle specifically for cannabis transportation and set up production at Tesla’s factory. On one hand, the courier service wants to create a recognizable brand; on the other, they want to make cannabis delivery as environmentally friendly as possible.

Pelican Delivers founder and CEO Dave Come commented on the news: “We’re excited about the idea of creating electric vehicles for cannabis transportation. The idea has been around for a while, and now we’re discussing project details with Tesla representatives. We can’t wait to see what the electric vehicle will look and drive like.”

Pelican Delivers is the only patented cannabis delivery service in the U.S. and Canada. The company partners with licensed cannabis producers, stores, and end consumers. They have developed a mobile app that allows anyone aged 21 and over to order legal recreational and medical cannabinoid products for delivery. Additionally, their website offers the option to purchase cannabis with home delivery in Canada and U.S. states where cannabis is legalized.

Will Elon Musk Be Interested in Cannabis?

Tesla employees have not yet confirmed their participation in the Pelican Delivers project, but considering company founder Elon Musk’s well-known interest in cannabis, it’s possible the company will take on the production of this unique electric vehicle. Musk’s enthusiasm for cannabis became widely known in 2018 after he smoked a joint on Joe Rogan’s podcast.

This year, Musk promised to smoke a cannabis joint during a Twitter board meeting. Initially, he planned to buy the social network (which is banned in Russia) in April, but then changed his mind and tried to back out of the deal. However, in October, the eccentric billionaire again announced his intention to acquire the digital platform for $44 billion. Twitter’s management agreed to the offer, but with special conditions to prevent Musk from backing out as he did before.

Currently, Twitter prohibits almost all cannabis-related advertising. The company often removes promotional posts about cannabis and blocks the accounts of cannabis sellers. It’s quite possible that after acquiring the company, Musk will revise the current rules and make the social network more cannabis-friendly.
