Telegram Publishes Statistics on Blocked Groups and Channels
Telegram has made public data regarding the blocking of channels and content that violate the messenger’s policies or laws. The statistics cover the period from December 12, 2023, to December 11, 2024.
Moderation Overview Tab Launched
A new “Telegram Moderation Overview” tab with these statistics has appeared on the company’s website. According to the report, in 2024, Telegram blocked 15.3 million groups and channels. The company stated, “Telegram blocks tens of thousands of groups and channels every day and removes millions of pieces of content that violate our terms of service, including calls for violence, distribution of child abuse materials, and illegal goods trading.”
Details on Blocked Content
- Nearly 702,000 groups containing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) were blocked this year.
- About 129,000 groups and channels linked to terrorist activities were also blocked.
- Over 100 million pieces of terrorist-related content were removed.
Moderation Tools Enhanced with AI
Telegram added that since 2015, its moderation process has combined user reports with proactive monitoring based on machine learning. This year, the company introduced moderation tools powered by artificial intelligence.
