Crypto Advocates Launch Animated Series About Talking Cats, MJ, and Alzheimer’s
An animated web series called “Stoner Cats,” produced by actress Mila Kunis, tells the story of cats whose owner uses MJ to treat Alzheimer’s disease. But this unusual series isn’t just about cannabis—it also aims to introduce viewers to new technologies in the crypto industry.
Plot and Characters
The story centers on Miss Stoner, a lively eighty-year-old woman with Alzheimer’s. One day, after smoking a joint, she coughs so hard that she accidentally drops a pile of weed into the fireplace. The resulting cloud of smoke gets her five house cats so high that they gain the ability to speak. Later, another cat joins them, becoming their mentor and offering advice on how to make life easier for their beloved owner.
Production and Cast
The official launch of the web series is set for July 28, with American actress Mila Kunis as producer. The voice cast already features Chris Rock (who recently announced his own film about cannabis) and Russian programmer Vitalik Buterin, best known as one of the creators of the Ethereum blockchain platform.
Crypto and NFT Integration
The web series is as much about cryptocurrency as it is about cannabis—one of its main features. To watch the show, viewers are invited to visit the official website and purchase an NFT token. This token includes an image of one of the cat characters and grants full access to the series.
- The price of the token is 0.35 ETH, or about $770 at the time of writing.
- The team expects to sell a total of 10,420 tokens.
- To complete the first season of six episodes, 50% of the tokens need to be sold. If 75% are sold, the team will begin work on a second season. A third season is possible, but not yet confirmed.
Why Crypto Crowdfunding?
The choice of crypto crowdfunding is intentional. As team member Morgan Beller explained, the decision was made out of concern for censorship, since the plot involves the use of psychoactive substances, even for medical purposes. The team also wants to maintain full creative freedom and avoid potential issues with traditional financial networks.
“We see this as an opportunity to educate people about the crypto industry. Personally, I think many crypto resources intimidate regular users. We need people, faces, and voices that are recognized to start explaining these concepts,” says Beller.
Charity and Payments
The cast will be paid in cryptocurrency. Vitalik Buterin has already announced that he will donate his entire fee to the SENS Foundation, which focuses on finding treatments for age-related diseases. The series’ website also states that 1% of total proceeds will be donated to Alzheimer’s-related charities, chosen by viewer vote.
