NLP Technique: Building a New Part
This step-by-step guide outlines an NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) technique for creating a new part of your personality to help you achieve a specific goal. Follow these instructions to identify, construct, and integrate a new behavioral part that supports your desired outcome.
1. Identify the Desired Outcome and Function of the New Part
Decide what result you want to achieve and define the function of the new part. For example: “I want to have a part of me that can achieve result X.”
2. Recall Past Experiences Related to X
- Remember any past experience where you did X or something similar.
- Immerse yourself in each memory and access all aspects of the action or its elements.
- Go through each memory using all your representational systems (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc.).
3. Create a Detailed Set of Images of the Desired Behavior
- a) First, construct a dissociated visual and auditory “movie” of yourself demonstrating the behaviors that would achieve result X.
- b) Once you see the entire sequence and are satisfied with it, step into each image and go through the sequence again from the inside, experiencing what your feelings would be like if you were actually performing this behavior.
- c) If you are not satisfied, go back to the previous step and modify the movie. Repeat this process until the created scenario satisfies you both from the outside and the inside.
4. Ecological Check
Ask yourself: “Is there any part of me that objects to having a part responsible for turning this scenario into reality?” Make sure to check all your representational systems for any objecting parts. For each objecting part:
- a) Ask each part to intensify its signal if it says “yes,” or decrease it if it says “no.”
- b) Ask: “What is your function?” or “What do you do for me?”
- c) If you still don’t understand the objection, ask: “What exactly is your objection, or what are you concerned about?”
- d) Make a complete list of all objecting parts and their functions.
5. Satisfy All Objecting Parts
- a) Redefine the part you are building to take into account all the functions and objections of the objecting parts.
- b) Return to step 3 and create a new or modified scenario that meets the requirements of each objecting part.
- c) Make sure each part is satisfied and that the new behavioral representation will not interfere with the functions of any objecting part.
6. Ask Your Subconscious to Analyze and Extract Key Ingredients
Request your subconscious to analyze your scenario and extract the essential elements. Your subconscious should use this information to build the new part and give it real existence. For example: “Extract from this scenario everything you need to build a part that can do this easily and perfectly whenever necessary.”
7. Check That the New Part Has Been Created
- a) Look inside yourself and ask if the new part is present.
- b) Future pace: imagine yourself in future situations and see if the new part responds appropriately.
- c) Test behaviorally to ensure the new part reacts as intended.
