NLP Technique: Finding Your Inner Zone of Excellence

NLP Technique: Discovering Your Inner Zone of Excellence

This simple exercise will help you find your inner zone of excellence. It is a core practice featured throughout the NLP Practitioner and NLP Master programs by Robert Dilts and Judith DeLozier. This brief meditation is used in almost all techniques to guide a person into a resourceful state. Practicing this exercise regularly can bring significant positive effects.

  1. Breathe calmly, without pausing between inhales and exhales. Keep your breath open throughout the entire exercise.
  2. Focus your attention on your feet. Feel your soles, from your heels to your toes. Notice the floor beneath your feet and how grounded you are. Gradually expand your attention to your calves, feel the energy rising, sense the fullness of your calves and knees, then move the energy up to your thighs and glutes. Feel your legs from your feet up to your hips and glutes.
  3. Focus on the center of your lower abdomen. Begin to breathe through this area. When you are ready, say to yourself: I am here.
  4. Move your attention upward. Feel your ribs, the space between your back and front ribs, then your chest. Sense the energy in your shoulders, shoulder blades, and arms. Start breathing through your chest center. When you are ready, say: I am open.
  5. Observe the sensations in your shoulder blades and neck. Feel your face—your chin, cheeks, nose, forehead, and eyes. Begin to breathe through the center of your head (the brain center). When you are ready, say: I am aware, awakened, relaxed, and energized.
  6. Feel the axis of your body, your center. You are grounded, you are here, you are open, aware, relaxed, and energized.
  7. Now sense the space around you: to your right, to your left, behind you, in front of you, above you, and below you. Feel the space surrounding you. When you are ready, say: I am connected, I am ready.
  8. You are grounded, you feel your axis, your center, you are here, open, aware, relaxed, energized, and connected to the space around you. You are ready.
