Mozilla Tests Password Generator in Firefox

The new password generation feature will become available with the release of Firefox 69, which is scheduled for fall 2019. Mozilla engineers are currently testing this new password generator, which is expected to appear in Firefox 69, planned for release in September of this year. Google implemented a similar feature in Chrome back in the fall of last year with the release of Chrome/Chromium 69.

At the moment, the new functionality is only available in the Firefox Nightly build. To activate the password generator in Firefox Nightly, you need to enable two settings in the about:config section: signon.generation.available and signon.generation.enabled. After this, a new option called “Suggest and generate strong passwords” will appear in the security settings. Once you check this box, the browser will automatically offer to create a password when you double-click on a password field.

As previously reported by SecurityLab, the Firefox team is also testing new security features to protect users from cryptojacking and website tracking. These new features are available in Firefox 68 Nightly and Firefox 67 Beta.
