Ministry of Digital Development to Automate Cybercriminal Data Collection and Reporting
The Ministry of Digital Development has announced plans to automate the collection, analysis, and transmission of data on cybercriminals to authorized agencies. According to the Ministry, these measures are expected to cut the number of fraudulent calls in half next year and ensure that fake websites are blocked within 24 hours. Ideally, the blocking process should take only six to eight hours, as stated by Minister Maksut Shadayev during an extended meeting of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy.
The Ministry clarified that the automation will streamline the process of gathering, analyzing, and forwarding information to the relevant authorities for decisions on blocking fraudulent websites. This initiative will be carried out in collaboration with leading Russian cybersecurity companies.
Experts from these cybersecurity firms will assist the Ministry in automating the entire process. Nikita Pinchuk, Chief Technology Officer at Infosecurity, a Softline Company, believes that the only effective way to reduce the number of phishing sites is to make this criminal business unprofitable by increasing costs for cybercriminals and reducing the profitability of their schemes.
Currently, most phishing resources are blocked within a few hours, but this is often enough time for them to achieve their goals and generate profits for their creators. To further reduce the number of fraudulent calls, Mr. Pinchuk suggests that it is necessary to identify fake call centers and hold the organizers of these criminal operations accountable.
