Roskomnadzor Proposes New Measures Against Phone Scams
Roskomnadzor is developing new strategies to combat phone fraud, according to Maksim Prytkin, head of the agencyβs communications control and supervision department. One of the proposed solutions is to ban calls made through messengers in Russia if their owners do not verify phone numbers in cooperation with telecom operators. Experts believe this measure could significantly reduce the number of scam calls, as criminals often use messengers to commit their crimes while remaining anonymous.
Why Messenger Calls Are Under Scrutiny
Maksim Prytkin emphasized that fraud via messengers is becoming increasingly sophisticated, and decisive action is needed to protect citizens. He also noted that Roskomnadzor is working closely with telecom operators and messenger developers to create effective anti-fraud measures.
Rising Cases of Phone Fraud
According to Roskomnadzor, the number of phone fraud cases has risen sharply in recent years. Scammers use various schemes, including posing as bank employees, law enforcement officers, and other official organizations to trick people into giving up personal information or money.
Modernizing Anti-Fraud Systems
In response to these developments, Roskomnadzor is also actively working on modernizing its anti-fraud protection systems. One option under consideration is the creation of a unified database of phone numbers involved in fraudulent activities. Such a database would make it easier and faster to identify and block suspicious calls.
