NiceHash Hacked: Over $60 Million in Bitcoin Stolen

NiceHash Suffers Major Hack, Over $60 Million in Bitcoin Stolen

NiceHash, one of the largest cryptocurrency mining marketplaces, has fallen victim to a hacker attack that resulted in the loss of its entire Bitcoin wallet balance. NiceHash allows users to rent out or lease computing power for cryptocurrency mining. Earnings can be withdrawn to external wallets or stored in a local, “secure and verified BitGo Bitcoin deposit wallet,” according to the platform’s official website.

The NiceHash administration published an official statement on Reddit confirming that the service was attacked in a way connected to the NiceHash website.

Investigation Underway

Currently, both NiceHash operators and law enforcement agencies are investigating the incident. Reports indicate that NiceHash’s payment system was compromised during the attack, and the contents of the platform’s Bitcoin wallet were stolen. This means the issue affected everyone who used the “safe and secure” local wallets.

Scale of the Theft

While NiceHash operators have not yet disclosed specific figures, affected users claim to have tracked a transfer of 4,736.42 BTC to this wallet. At the time of the attack, this amounted to over $60 million, and the loss has since exceeded $70 million as Bitcoin’s value continues to rise.

Service Temporarily Suspended

The NiceHash website is currently offline. Once the service is restored (expected within the next 24 hours), users are strongly advised to change their passwords as a precautionary measure.
