Intel to Release Augmented Reality Glasses with Laser Projector in 2018

Intel Plans to Launch Augmented Reality Glasses with Laser Projector in 2018

Intel is preparing to develop and release augmented reality glasses with a built-in laser projector later this year, according to a report by Bloomberg citing company sources.

The glasses, called Superlite, will connect to a smartphone via Bluetooth. Their main feature is a laser projector that displays virtual objects onto the real world within the user’s field of view. Further technical details about the technology have not yet been disclosed.

Sources indicate that Intel plans to establish a new company named Vaunt specifically for the production of these glasses. The team will include several former employees of Recon Instruments, an augmented reality headset developer that Intel acquired in 2015. Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer Quanta Computer will also participate in the production process.

Intel’s press office declined to comment on this information.
