Elon Musk Proposes End-to-End Encryption for Twitter DMs
Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter and CEO of both SpaceX and Tesla, has announced plans to protect users’ private messages on Twitter with end-to-end encryption (E2EE). Musk was inspired by the security features of Signal and other secure messaging apps. He shared his intentions directly on Twitter, stating:
“Direct messages on Twitter should be protected with end-to-end encryption, like in Signal, so that no one can hack or monitor your conversations.”
This may be the perfect time to implement E2EE for Twitter’s private messages, as the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has already expressed concerns about the lack of such encryption on the platform.
Experts have pointed out that Twitter’s owners and moderators currently have access to users’ messages, which is unacceptable when it comes to true privacy and confidentiality.
