Huawei Unveils Harmony OS, Not a Direct Android Competitor

Huawei Introduces Its Own Harmony OS, But It’s Not an Android Rival

Huawei has announced its own operating system, Harmony, designed for smartphones and other devices. However, the Chinese tech giant emphasizes that Harmony is not a direct competitor to Android and was not created to replace Googleโ€™s OS.

According to Huawei representatives, the company will continue to use Android for its smartphones for now, while the new system is better suited for smartwatches, smart speakers, and virtual reality gadgets.

Despite not aiming to replace Android, Huawei acknowledges that this new development will help the company become less dependent on U.S. software technologies.

โ€œHarmony OS is something completely different from Android and iOS. Developers can create an app once and then deploy it across a wide range of user devices,โ€ said Richard Yu, a Huawei spokesperson.

According to Yu, the first products to be released with Harmony OS pre-installed will be Honor TVs.

Huawei began working on Harmony two years ago. Importantly, it will be an open-source system, with the main goal of being more secure and efficient than existing solutions on the market.
