HackTown: A Dark Web University for Cybercriminals
The Armor Threat Resistance Unit (TRU) team has published a report on the economic aspects of the dark web. The most intriguing part of the research is the analysis of what can be described as a university for cybercriminals.
The report details various services that cybercriminals offer on dark web platforms, such as the cost of launching SMS “bombing” attacks against victims. However, the most interesting section focuses on a platform called HackTown, which offers specialized courses and even degrees for aspiring cybercriminals.
HackTown’s Mission and Offerings
The main goal of the people behind HackTown is to teach individuals how to professionally engage in illegal activities in cyberspace. The university’s representatives promise that graduates will be able to “get into hacking and carry out fraudulent operations, making a living from it.” Anyone with minimal coding knowledge—or even no experience at all—can become a “student.”
According to HackTown’s website, “By completing the offered courses, you will gain the knowledge and skills needed to successfully hack an individual or even an entire organization.”
Courses and Tools
The platform offers both free and paid courses. Free courses cover topics such as network attacks, Wi-Fi hacking, and even carding. For $125, users can gain access to all available courses.
In addition, HackTown provides a range of tools to help beginners track their progress and build a career as a professional hacker.
