Europol Seeks Five Russian Hackers in $100 Million Cyber Theft Attempt

During an international operation involving law enforcement agencies from several countries, a major cybercriminal group was dismantled. According to Europol representatives, Russian citizens were among the members of this group.

The cybercriminals were known for using a malicious program called GozNym. With this software, the attackers attempted to target 41,000 victims, aiming to steal around $100 million.

The group primarily targeted various businesspeople and financial institutions.

To take down the criminal organization, law enforcement agencies from Bulgaria, Germany, Georgia, Moldova, the United States, and Ukraine participated in the operation. According to TASS, criminal cases were initiated in Georgia, Moldova, the United States, and Ukraine.

Currently, five Russian citizens who participated in the group’s attacks are wanted by Europol. Three of them were directly involved in developing the group’s main tool—GozNym. The other two were responsible for laundering the illegally obtained funds.
