CIA Launches Tor Website for Anonymous Tips
The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has announced the launch of its own website on the Tor network. This resource is primarily intended for individuals who wish to anonymously provide the agency with important information or are interested in becoming CIA employees.
The decision to create a dedicated .onion site is described by the agency as a natural step, since “it is more secure, anonymous, and impossible to track.” Essentially, the Tor site will be a full copy of the official CIA website, but it will only be accessible through Tor or other browsers that support access to the anonymous network, such as Brave, which already offers a built-in Tor mode in its alternative private browsing option. Mozilla has also promised to integrate Tor into Firefox as part of its Fusion project.
What Is the Tor Network?
The Tor network is a system of proxy servers designed to enable anonymous, secure internet connections that are protected from eavesdropping and cannot be tracked. Traffic anonymity is achieved through a globally distributed network of servers, with data being redirected through dozens—or in some cases, hundreds—of nodes. Anyone can take advantage of this network by downloading the Tor browser and installing it on their computer or mobile device.
