Number of Fake Websites Selling Cheap Electronics Is Growing
The Russian Quality System (Roskachestvo) has warned consumers about a rise in dangerous websites that take advantage of the current situation by offering electronics at unusually low prices. In reality, these web resources are fraudulent.
Typically, the administrators of such sites do their best to make them look like legitimate online stores. Scammers spread information about incredible discounts and cheap electronics through social networks, messaging apps, and emails.
Roskachestvo’s press service cautioned users that clicking on such links is risky. Fortunately, these sites are not yet ranking high in search engine results, but there is still a risk of visiting them directly via a link received in a message.
Expert Commentary on the New Phishing Attack
Grigory Kovshov, an expert from Gazinformservice, commented on the new phishing attack:
“Phishing remains the main threat in 2022 because it is currently the most widespread type of fraud. Information literacy among consumers of financial services is a key factor in the fight against cybercriminals. It’s important to remember that it’s safer to buy products from trusted sellers on official websites. It’s also a good idea to use modern security tools to protect your devices. Don’t forget to use antivirus software, which can warn you about dangers and block connections to suspicious phishing resources if they contain malicious code.
Be vigilant and remember—information security is in our hands.”
