British Scientists Launch Cannabis Research Center in Kentucky

A new research center has been established at the Center on Drug and Alcohol Research (CDAR) at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, located in Kentucky, USA. The center will build on previous cannabis research conducted in the United Kingdom and expand the scope of clinical studies on cannabis. Researchers at the center will study the effects of cannabis on health, including its risks and potential benefits for treating certain medical conditions.

The center was created under Kentucky House Bill 604, which aims to accelerate cannabis research related to the health and well-being of Kentucky residents. The law allocates $2 million in funding to the center over the next two years.

The legislation also requires the University of Kentucky to apply to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for a license to grow and cultivate cannabis. If approved, the center will be able to conduct agricultural research on optimal growing conditions for cannabis.

As Kentucky considers legalizing medical marijuana use, the research conducted at the new center will help inform healthcare professionals, lawmakers, and the public about the risks and benefits of cannabis and cannabinoids.
